Free Concert
I keep seeing people saying the Allman Brothers sat in, didn't happen. The day started with Chicago Transit Authority followed by Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett then Spirit. Next up comes the Grateful Dead. Great show the boys were in great form.
I think people are confusing this show with the May 10 1970 show in the Atlanta Sports Arena. At that show The Deads equipment didn't get there in time. The promter contacted the Allman Brothers and ask to borrow their equipment. Of course they came with. The Dead played a great set ending with drums. the crowd clapped to the beat as they left the stage. The Dead came back with The Brothers picked up the beat from the crowd, unbelievable synchronicty

No Duane or Greg, at least that I saw
I sat/stood on the ground at the edge of the wooden bandstand/hut for the entire show this day. So I was three feet from Jerry Garcia the whole time. Delaney and Bonnie, Spirit, Chicago and the Dead all played (can't be sure of the Spirit/Chicago order, but D&B were first and the Dead were last). Sadly, Greg and Duane were not there. Don't know how stuff like this gets started. It was a great event, with Chicago (and the great Terry Kath) exploding on an unsuspecting public. The other three bands were good, but Chicago was super-tight and inventive in ways that made the other three bands sound a bit like amateurs. Kath played guitar the best, Kath and Cetera sang the best, and the Chicago horns/bass/drums cooked. Too bad Kath died and Chicago went middle of the road.

Duane and Gregg?
Kinda hard to tell if the Allmans are playing or not. It honestly sounds like TC on organ to me, and I dont hear Duane anywhere. Could be wrong, but I dont think the brothers are playing. Great Lovelight nonetheless..

More exemplary '69; nothing really *surprising* if you're familiar with the basic material, but that doesn't mean it isn't played to the hilt; it is.
I think the most pleasant variation on the norm is the odd intro to Casey Jones, sans the familiar riff - you won't recognize the tune at first. While everyone loves the line they eventually laid down to signal the tune's beginning, to hear the genesis here is pretty neat.
Lovelight is the BIG highlight of this show; a few patches needed here and there....this is another one of those sources just waiting for a day when it can be complete, but probably won't be. If Duane and Gregg are playing on this one, I couldn't really tell...
Anyone know if the Allman Brothers' set was taped?

Dark Star
An excellent show with an undeservedly low profile. The DS-> St Stephen -> Eleven is top drawer. Tom Constanten demonstrates why he was invited to join the band.

standout 69
great sounding set. .one of the better soundboards from summer 69...as a note, the Eleven track actually starts with the High Green Chilly Winds interlude...

FIne day in Piedmont Park
What a time to have enjoyed a day in the Park! A piece of ATL music history. Being able to hold a civil, free, and amazing experience such as this in Piedmont Park is beyond our imagining these days. Charlie Miller should never have to pay for a drink of anything the rest of his life! Four stars on the performance, five stars for the upgrade!
